#109 assigned enhancement

add a timestamp to the logfiles name

Description

It would be nice if you could add a timestamp to the filename of the logfile. So you wouldn't override the previous logfile and bugtracking would be easier.

I don't think it's a good idea in itslef, as logs will always grow under
/var/log, and ending by filling up the FS.

What we could do rather is always appending to the same logfile and
provide a logrotate config file.

Hi Bruno,

Your idea to use logrotate sounds good to me.

Only thing is that maybe mindi and mondoarchive should do their own log rotation because we can't predict when they run. But they could just call logrotate to do the job I suppose.

Cheers, Andree

[Sorry Andree, no mail reply avilable anymore due to spam :-(]

That was my question. Is logrotate generally used on Debian ? As it is on the RPM based distro I use, I think that if the answer is yes, we can use that mecanism to provide that feature. My idea was to add a conf file under /etc/logrotate.d for mondo (mindi doesn't really need it anymore as its log is now part of mondo's log)
