Normally that should work without problems.

On the machine where I ran mondoarchive, online resizing works.
I'm using mondo 2.20-1.1 and mindi 2.20-2 on Debian Etch.

Using dumpe2fs on the two machines (the master and the cloned) I notice this difference:

The master machine:
Filesystem features:      has_journal resize_inode dir_index filetype needs_recovery sparse_super large_file

The cloned machine:
Filesystem features:      has_journal filetype needs_recovery 
sparse_super
