Diary (November)

November 29th, 2001

It looks as if v1.20 is a good version. I have had a lot of e-mails - maybe 20 or 30 - today but not one contained a major bug report. One user is having trouble getting Debian and Mondo to play nicely (gee, there's a shock) but apart from that, v1.20 looks really good.

I spend 3-4 hours per day on the code and 1-2 hours per day responding to Mondo-related e-mails. You don't have to contribute but remember, neither do I. :-) There is now a PayPal (TM) icon, in case you feel generous enough to give back to someone giving back to the community.

Mondo v1.20 is the first of the 1.2x stable branch. I am currently working hard on v1.3x, adding goodies such as a RAID device editor. The stable branch is there for users who want a nice, safe, stable version of Mondo to use.

Oh, and I nearly wiped my system. Yes, again. I blame the jet-lag. (I emigrated on Monday. I am now back in England. It is 2 a.m. and I am not remotely sleepy. Ugh. Flying is like doing heroin: the high is great but it's expensive as heck and you feel like the wrath of God afterwards. Anyway, I typed 'nuke' instead of 'expert' - quite a typo - and then I wondered why my PC was counting down. 10... 9... 8... Oh #$!@. Reset, quick!

It has been very quiet on the Mondo front this week. I guess v1.19-r4 is pretty stable, eh? Phew. I am preparing to fork Mondo into v1.2x (stable) and v1.3x (unstable).

Mindi v0.45-r4 and Mondo v1.19-r4 are out. They contain bugfixes and a pinch of magic pixie-dust. They also contain a 'fix /tmp, when you first boot after restoring' bugfix. Hope you like it. They are, I hope, better than r3, which contained a very silly mistake.

Linux Journal's December magazine has my Mondo article. Buy it. :-)

Mindi v0.45-2 is out. It contains a few bugfixes.

Mondo v1.19 and Mindi v0.45 are out. Lots of significant bugs have been fixed. Also, this release pair has been tested with Red hat 7.2 and it seems to work just fine. I wiped and restored my system with this release (as I do from time to time) under Linux-Mandrake 8.0 and Red Hat 7.2; no problems so far.

Best step off, dude. Many a bug shall die tonight at mine hand.

I am back from Florida (yes, again) and I'm going to release a new Mindi/Mondo pair in a couple of days.

I am bug-stomping. That's what I do for fun. Some people have meaningful, fulfilling relationships with the opposite sex (or same sex, in some cases). Me, I bug-stomp. It is truly ironic that my ex-wife used to complain I was spending too much time with Mindi.
